  • 2.Carmakers around the world are being forced (被迫的) to make fever cars because they can't get enough computer parts. As a result, several factories have had to close down for a while. .
When you think of car parts, you might not think of computers. But a small unit of a computer, called the microprocessor (微處理器),is very important in modern cars. And these microprocessors, often called chips (芯片),are used to control many different parts of a car.A modern car may have as many as 150 chips.
Last year, with the world locked down because of COVID-19,many carmakers had to close their factories.Since they didn't make cars, they canceled many of their orders with chipmakers, which forced the chipmakers to stop making so many chips for cars. They started looking for other customers, and soon began selling lots of chips to other kinds of companies. Now those carmakers are ready to start making lots of cars again, but there aren't enough chips.Another reason for the chip shortage (短缺) is that there aren't many companies making them.
How bad is it?The chip shortage has already caused carmakers to produce 500,000 fewer cars, according to a company that studies the car business. The company expects that number to drop by 300,000 more cars this year.
In the US,President Joe Biden:asked the government for $37 billion to help make sure that more chips would be made in future.Even so,it's unlikely to solve the problems the carmakers face now in a short time. Most people expect the chip shortage will last for months.

    A.200,000.
    B.300,000.

(3)What can we learn from the last paragraph?

  • 3.Bissell is a village in West Sahara. Before Ken Levin discovered it,people here tried many times to walk out of the desert, but they didn't.He asked everyone, but got the same answer:no matter (無(wú)論) which direction you walk towards, you will return to the starting point. However,Ken Levin walked northwards from Bissell, and went out of the desert three days and a half later.

Ken Levin finally understood:the people of Bissell could not walk out because they didn't know the Pole Star (北極星).In the desert,if a man goes only by his feeling,he will walk in circles of all sizes and the final footprint will probably be a shape of tape. The village of Bissell was in the middle of the desert without a reference. So it was impossible to walk out without knowing the Pole Star or taking a compass.
