Christmas Day was coming.I was just a kid then, and my big sister told me there was no Santa Claus.I fled to my Grandma because she would be straight with me.l knew Grandma always told me the truth.Grandma was home, and I told her everything. She was ready for me. "No Santa Claus!" She shouted. "Ridiculous!Don't believe it.That rumor has been going around for years, and it makes me mad, plain mad."
    "Now,put on your coat,and let's go."
"Go where,Grandma?" l asked. "Where" turned out to be Kerby's General Store.the one store in town that had a little bit of just about everything. As we walked through its doors,Grandma handed me ten dollars."Take this money."she said,"and buy something for someone who needs it.I'll wait for you in the car." Then she turned and walked out of Kerby's.
I was only eight years old.I'd often gone shopping with my mother, but never had I shopped for anything all by myself. The store seemed big and crowded, full of people competing to finish their Christmas shopping. For a few moments I just stood there, confused, holding that ten-dollar bill, wondering what to buy and who to buy it for.I suddenly thought of Bobby Decker, who was a kid with bad breath and messy hair.He sat right behind me in Mrs.Pollock's grade-two class.
Bobby Decker didn't have a coat.l knew that because he never went out for recess(休息) during the winter. His mother always wrote a note, telling the teacher that he had a cough, but we kids knew that Bobby Decker didn't have a cough, and he didn't have a coat.I fingered the ten dollar bill with growing excitement.I would buy Bobby Decker a coat!I settled on a red one, which looked really warm, and he would like that.
"Is this a Christmas present for someone?"the lady behind the counter asked kindly,as I laid my ten dollars down."Yes."
The nice lady smiled at me,put the coat in a bag and wished me a Merry Christmas.

When Bryan Anderson noticed an old lady, caught on the side of the road,he knew she needed help.So he pulled up in front of her Mercedes and got out with his motor still running.
Even with a big smile on his face, she was worried. He didn't look safe;he looked poor and hungry. After reading her mind,he introduced himself as Bryan Anderson and began to help her.
Learning that she had a flat tire, without a second thought,Bryan set out to work and took hours to get it right, dirty and tired. She couldn't thank him enough for coming to her aid.
With everything done, the lady asked how much she owed him.Any amount would have been all right with her.She already imagined all the awful things that could have happened.Bryan never thought about being paid. This was helping someone in need.He had lived his whole life that way,and it never occurred to him to act any other way.
Bryan told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone who needed help, she could give that person help the way he gave her,and he added,"And think of me to let the chain of love pass on."
Hearing that she owed him nothing, with tears rolling down her cheeks, the old lady drove off with a deep "Thank you".
A few miles down the road the lady saw a small cafe. She went in to grab a bite to eat,and take the chill off before she made the last leg of her trip home.In the dirty-looking restaurant, the whole scene was unfamiliar to her;a waitress came over and brought a clean towel to wipe her wet hair. She had a sweet smile, one that even being on her feet for the whole day couldn't erase. The lady noticed the waitress was nearly eight months pregnant, but she never let the strain and aches change her attitude. Then she remembered Bryan.

Monday started out great.I woke up on time, ate breakfast and did some last minute studying for my first hour math test.I was confident of getting good grades. Then I left my house.Ten minutes later,I was settled with my friends on the school bus.We were busy chatting about how we spent our weekend. At one stop,F(xiàn)at Ryan got on hurriedly. He tripped over someone's foot accidentally and THUMP!He fell flat onto the floor.
Every one of us on the bus looked on and laughed crazily.Ryan struggled to his feet, dusted the jacket and made his way to an empty seat.He tried to laugh with us,but his face was burning with embarrassment. The rest of the morning flew by.I did well in my math test.I read two more chapters of To Kill a Mockingbird in English class. It wasn't long before there went the lunch bell.I met my friends from the cheerleading team in the dining hall. Then I couldn't help but notice Ryan a few tables away, sitting all alone. He caught me looking.I smiled at him quickly and looked away.
When we finished eating,we headed out to the courtyard to practice a cheer we would do at that night's football game. After a little practice,we nailed the cheer,so we decided we only needed to go through it one last time.Again, just like the rest of my day so far,the cheer was going great.I raised my leg for one last toe touch.RIIPPP!I felt my jeans split down the middle of my backside.
I froze.I had no idea what to do but stand still. Then I heard people burst out laughing, and I saw them pointing at my torn jeans.Trying to cover myself with my hands,I tried to laugh too,but I felt tears began to well up in my eyes.
