試題詳情
The San Diego Zoo has been a lovely home for giant pandas since two of the black-and-white bears came to visit in 1987.This week there was snow in San Diego well,at least for a lucky group of giant pandas.
Over 15 tons of snow was blown into the San Diego Zoo's panda area on Tuesday morning to give the endangered bears a chance to play. They would experience the snow just like living in their natural habitat.
The snow day was a first for Xiao Liwu whose name means"Little Gift."He was the sixth baby panda born to Bai Yun.Xiao Liwu was jumping on Mom,playing with her and getting used to being thrown in the snow by mama bear.Jennifer Becerra,San Diego Zoo keeper said,"He was really enjoying the snow and running around.I've never seen him so happy."
All the San Diego Zoo's giant pandas are from China,as part of a long-term captive breeding(人工養(yǎng)殖) program.Four of Xiao Liwu's brothers have already been moved from California to China.
Today there are 44 giant pandas living in zoos outside of China, where the bears' only natural home is.As just 1,600 pandas are thought to be left in the wild, researchers insist that captive breeding is an important way to study and protect the endangered pandas. Not only because of the habitat loss from human activities and low reproductive rates(繁殖率),giant pandas' survival is also affected by climate change.A study showed that global warming could kill much of the bears' main food, bamboo, over the next century.

1.Whales are the largest living organisms (生物)living on the surface of the earth. An adult blue whale weighs up to 173 tonnes with 30 meters in length. When a whale dies in the ocean, its body usually falls to the sea floor and a special deep-sea ecosystem will be formed in a long time.Scientists give a name to this:the whale fall.
Recently, some scientists on a Chinese research ship called Tansuo-1 found a whale fall at the depth of 1,600 meters in the South China Sea.Whale falls are seldom found by humans. This is the first time China has found this type of ecosystem. So far, less than 50 modern natural whale falls have been found by humans around the world.
The whale fall is really important to deep-sea animals,as it provides food for them.Usually, the whale fall goes through three stages. The first stage comes just after the whale dies. The body attracts lots of big sea animals such as shark and they come to eat the body. This stage lasts from months to years. At the second stage, smaller animals come for the whale's bones and leftovers. This stage can last one or two years.Bacteria (細(xì)菌)play a role at the third stage. They break down what has been left. This stage can last as long as 100 years.
The whale fall found in the South China Sea is 3 meters long.It is still at the first stage. The scientists said it would take them a long time to study the whale fall because they knew it would help them understand the deep-sea ecosystem better.

2.When John was growing up,other kids felt sorry for him.His parents always had him working in the garden, carrying out the garbage and delivering newspapers. But when John reached adulthood,he was better off than his childhood playmates. He had more job satisfaction,a better marriage and was healthier. Most of all,he was happier.Far happier.
These are the findings of a 40-year study that followed the lives of 456 teenage boys from Boston. The study showed that those who had worked as boys enjoyed happier and more productive lives than those who had not."Boys who worked in the home or community were better at dealing with problems and felt more confident. They believed they could achieve very much." said George Vaillant ,the psychologist(心理學(xué)家)who made the discovery."And because they felt good about themselves, others felt good about them."
In the study,Vaillant's team compared these men's achievements with their boyhood working experiences. They paid attention to lots of details. They found out the success as adults had a lot to do with the boyhood activities. Those who did the most boyhood activities were twice as likely (可能的)to have warm relations with a wide variety of people, five times as likely to be well paid and 16 times less likely to lose their jobs. The study also suggested that IQ and family background made no real difference in how the boys turned out.Working-at any age-is important.Childhood activities ,such as part-time jobs, housework, effort in school and the ability to solve the problems help a child develop his abilities, which are keys to a happy world. They also help him understand that people must cooperate and work toward common goals. The most competent adults are those who know how to do this.Yet work isn't everything. As Tolstoy once said,"One can live magnificently in this world if one knows how to work and how to love,to work for the person one loves and to love one's work."

3.①Recently,I have finished four space tasks.I stayed in space for more than 43 days, and complete six spacewalks for 43 hours and 13 minutes,so I have a lot of experience there.Today,I want to share some information unusual:what it's like to eat in space.
②People often ask me if Tang- -a kind of orange drink mix--is still taken in space.Don't laugh, but we still drink it.Today's space foods look like foods we're used to eating every day.Foods, like nuts (堅果) or brownies (布朗尼蛋糕),can be taken on board as much as possible. But things like macaroni (通心面) or noodles would be specially prepared, then kept and packaged (打包) to stop them going everywhere .It's a difficult but necessary process. However, food on a space task can be quite rich and various, can't it?
③The microgravity (微重力) on the space station changes things in some ways. For one thing, there is no"up" or "down" in space. It also changes how things taste. On Earth, most of your blood is usually below your heart. In space, you're weightless,so the sharing of blood in your body changes. One result is lowering your sense of taste,at least at first. This happened to me on one task. When I took sugar candy,I wasn't able to taste it until the ninth day.
④Food can be a real happiness in space. For us,eating is more than just getting power and energy.Familiar foods and tastes can remind us of home and keep us feeling that we still keep in touch with Earth.
