2.Bertie knew there was something in the wind. His mother had been sad in recent days, not sick, just strangely sad.The lion had just lain down beside him,his head warm on Bertie's feet when Father cleared his throat and began, "You'll soon be eight,Bertie.A boy needs a proper education. We've found the right place for you,a school near Salisbury in England."
His heat filled with a terrible fear. All Bertie could think of was his white lion "But the lion," he cried, "What about the lion?"
"I'm afraid there's something else I have to tell you," his father said.Looking across at Bertie's mother,he took a deep breath. Then he told Bertie he had met a circus(馬戲團)owner from France, who was now in Africa looking for lions to buy.He would come to their farm in a few days.
"No!You can't send him to a circus!" said Bertie." People will come to see him. He'll be shut in a cage.I promised him he never would be.And they will laugh at him. He'd rather die if he loses his pride?" But as Bertie looked across the table at them,he knew their minds were quite made up.
Bertie felt completely hurt.He waited until he heard his father's deep breathing next door. With his white lion,he walked downstairs quietly in his pajamas, took down his father's gun from the case and stepped out into the night. He ran and ran till his legs could run no more.As the sun came up over the grassland,he climbed to the top of a hill and sat down, his arms round the lion's neck. The time had come.
"Be wild now," he whispered" "You've got to be wild.Don't ever come home. All my life I'll think of you.I promise I will. "Ha put his head down in the lion's neck. Then,Bertie climbed down the hill and walked away.
When he looked back the lion was still sitting there watching him,but then the lion stood up,yawned, ran down after him.Bertie shouted at him,but he kept coming. He threw sticks. He threw stones.Nothing worked.

4.Nowadays there are different ideas about competition. Some value it highly, believing that it is good for social development. However, others say that competition is bad and that it leads to unfriendly relationship between people.
I have taught many children. For them, playing well and winning are often life-and-death events. In their mind what they really want is going for success, the development of many others qualities is sadly forgotten.
However, while some seem to be lost on the way to success, others take an opposite opinion. Many people are strongly against competition.Among them, most are young people who have suffered from such pressure from their parents. They seem to look for failure by not trying to win or achieve success.______,they always have an excuse: "I may have lost, but it doesn't matter because I really didn't try." They don't want to admit(承認) that if they have really tried and lost, they would mean more.
Clearly, this belief(信念) is the same as that of those who try to prove(證明) them salves. Both come from the wrong belief that self-confidence depends on how wall one does by comparing with others. Both are afraid of not being valued. If such fear begins to be unimportant,we can have a better knowledge of competition.

A Smell good. D A smile goes a long way. B Dress to impress. E Be careful about your body language. C Get ready for a speech. F Decide what image(形象)you want to present.
Researchers have discovered that,in general,it only takes seven seconds for a person to start making judgments about you when they first meet you. That's why you should follow these useful tips on how to create a good first impression.
(1)
Before meeting someone, start thinking about the purpose of the meeting. Are you trying to impress them? For example,if you want to make new friends at a social event, you will want to appear friendly. And if you decide to run for class president at your school, you will need to appear confident.
(2)
Smiling is the most important thing you can do when meeting someone new.It shows that you're friendly and makes people around you feel more comfortable. To have a winning smile, make sure your teeth are clean by brushing them every day.
(3)
Before you begin speaking, you will be judged on your body language. Therefore,it's important to show trust in yourself by standing up tall and putting your shoulders back.Besides,if you uncross your arms, you will appear relaxed and friendly.
(4)
How you smell can influence people's first impression of you.If you have a bad body smell,it will put people off.In short, aim to smell clean and avoid putting on a lot of scented products.
(5)
What you wear matters. While you should look clean and tidy,it's also important to dress properly, whether you're going to a birthday party or a sporting event. You should think about what your clothes say about you.組卷:7引用:3難度:0.5
