  • 5.It was Molly's job to hand her father his brown paper lunch bag each morning before he headed off to work.
One morning,in addition to his usual lunch bag,Molly handed him a second paper bag. This one was worn and held together with staples (訂書釘) .
"Why two bags?" her father asked. "The other is something else," Molly answered. "What's in it?" "Just some stuff.Take it with you."
He put both bags into his briefcase, kissed Molly and rushed off.At midday he opened Molly's bag and took out the contents:two hair ribbons(絲帶),three small stones,a tiny sea shell,a small doll, and 13 pennies…The busy father smiled, finished eating, and swept the desk clean into the wastebasket,Molly's stuff included.
That evening,Molly ran up behind him as he read the paper. "Where's my bag?" "What bag?" "The one I gave you this morning." "I left it at the office. Why?" "I forgot to put this note in it," she said. "Daddy, the things in the sack are the things I really like - I thought you might like to play with them. You didn't lose the bag,did you,Daddy?" "Oh,no," he said, lying. "I just forgot to bring it home.I'll bring it tomorrow." While Molly hugged her father's neck,he unfolded the note that read:"I love you,Daddy." Molly had given him her treasures - all that a 7-year-old girl held dear.
Love in a paper bag,and he missed it - not only missed it,but had thrown it in the wastebasket. So back he went to the office.Just ahead of the night janitor(看門人),he picked up the wastebasket and carried it home carefully. The bag didn't look so good, but the stuff was all there and that's what counted.
After dinner,he asked Molly to tell him about the stuff in the sack.It took a long time to tell.Everything had a story or a memory.
We should all remember that it's not the destination that counts in life, but the journey. That journey with the people we love is all that really matters. It is such a simple truth but it is so easily forgotten.

  • 6.In the computer age, most of us think of a broadband(寬帶) Internet connection to be common.Whether wired or wireless, today's connections are many times faster.Videos play smoothly;complex websites load quickly;and the files are much bigger too.
But there's still a catch,of course. You have to live near enough to a major city to get broadband Internet. If you don't,it's slow for you to use dial-up connection. And for those living really far out, there may be no Internet connection at all.
Technology experts often talk about the "last mile" problem, which refers to the difficulty of making Internet available for remote places. It is much more difficult to deliver connection to those living far from cities, especially in developing countries.Internet service providers, for their part, have been unwilling to provide connection to areas with smaller population, where the Internet users wouldn't cover the expense.
Still, the "last mile" problem remains hard to deal with. There will always be somewhere that doesn't have an affordable broadband connection. But someday that might not matter. If the rapid progress in cell phone technology is any indication(跡象),it may not be too long before an Internet connection simply follows you wherever you go.

(3)What may eventually settle the "last mile" problem?

    A.The broadband connection's getting faster.
    B.More and more Internet users.
    C.More and more Internet connections.
D.The rapid progress in cell phone technology.

  • 25.We middle school students have had many tests or exam. We have achieved success and suffer failure. Different students take different attitudes to failure.
Some is in low spirits when they don't do well in the exams. They usually lose their heart and no longer study so harder as before. But most students take an active attitude towards failure. They encourage themselves to be confidently. They try to find out but analyse the causes so that they will no longer make same mistakes.
I agree with those which have active attitudes. As we all known, failure is the mother of success.
