2．In my world，from my home in suburban Michigan，I can find cool，clean，refreshing water to drink wherever I want it．At my high school．At the gym．At my grandmother's house．Anywhere．I take it for granted．
But my view of the world was rocked when I saw a video about why people run．Their motivation was to help children in Kenya without having access to clean water．I could not believe what I saw，like photos of children walking miles to get water，instead of going to school．
What I did believe was that I should do something to help．The opportunity to do so was right in front of me．Someone was organizing people to run the Chicago Marathon．Each runner had to raise more than ＄1，000 in the race．All the money will go to building toilets，drilling wells-whatever it takes to keep pollutants out of the water in cities and small villages in Africa，and to give people life．I believe that water is life．
I signed up!At 16，I just made the minimum age criteria for running the marathon．I knew I could-and should-raise money to address the environmental problems that disturb the children of developing countries．I had never run more than 7 miles，but I knew that running 26.2 miles would not compare to the pain and suffering those children go through on a daily basis．
It amazes me how much my life has changed．I am grateful to be part of a church community that not only made me aware of the environmental problems Kenya faces but helped me realize how I can make a difference if I put my mind and feet to it．
Since finishing the marathon-my first!-I have started a running group called Sole Sisters helping protect the environment．

3．Getting a cold is stressful．It makes you feel rubbish and prevents you from doing the things you want to do．It also creates something of a moral dilemma when it comes to whether or not you should head into work．So to help you decide，let's take a look at some of the factors．
Will you be productive？If not，then you'd better have one day off and then work properly，instead of having a whole week of work only getting half your tasks completed．
Are you infectious（傳染的）？If so，the most serious damage you can do to your workplace is that some colleagues can get infected，thus dramatically affecting the productivity of the whole workforce．
Another reason for taking time off work is that it might even cause possible complications．Even if you can work in your current condition，it does not necessarily mean that you should．Ignoring your symptoms could result in you catching new diseases，which will get things worse．Listen to your body and take its warnings seriously!
Maybe there's an important meeting tomorrow，or you're trying to impress the new boss，or because you have a huge to-do list．Or you're probably thinking that this case should be the exception to the rule and that now just isn't a good time to take off work．You're probably always feeling as though you have a huge mountain of work to do．
In fact it's a good chance that this pressure is actually what caused you to get ill in the first place．If you can't take a single day off work for the sake of your health，then there's probably something wrong with your work/life balance．This would be a good time to start changing that．

For the last 27 years，the Bowersox family has spent their holidays with Santa．It was not the one from the North Pole but a wooden cutout（雕刻）of him purchased by Jeff and Jeanne Bowersox at a holiday sale when they first moved to New Castle，Delaware．The couple adored it．
"Since 1993，Santa has been in our yard，" Jeanne said．"and our grandkids just loved to come and see Santa．"
With two red，golf ball-sized dots for his cheeks and a red nose，he is the happiest Santa around．For years，the cutout brought joy to their entire neighborhood．But no one enjoyed it more than the Bowersox family，especially in times of sadness．
"He's always the first decoration that's put out．"Jeanne said．"And my husband had the idea to put our address on the back of it．"
When the family lost Jeff for cancer in 2014，the handwriting on the back of Santa became one of many memorable things tied to the family patriarch（族長）．Every year，the Bowersox family placed the Santa out by the giant tree in front of their home just like their father did．

Christmas was one of Jeff's favorite times of the year．He would often get down on the floor wit h Jeanne to help with hand-made gifts．Their daughter Gray remembered how her father used to dress up as Santa when the grandkids were young．The face of holiday cheer was always present．Once the grandchildren got old enough to recognize that it was grandpa under the mask，a neighbor took over the Santa duties．But the spirit of Christmas was still strong within Jeff．
