2.Something strange has been happening to me lately.Women in the street have been telling me I'm brave. My act of courage isn't much --- I just stopped coloring my hair.I had brown hair that started going gray when I was 30.So,like a lot of women,I started dyeing (把……染上顏色)jye.ai.It was expensive, messy and time-consuming.And my hair grows fast,so I needed to go back to the hair salon every five weeks.
Of course, people should do what they want with their own body --- my mother is 91 and still has "blond" hair, and why not?I just wish more of us would feel that it was OK to be ourselves.
I like my natural hair, just as it is.I like how it has gotten curly and full again. It is recovering after years of being damaged by chemicals,I also like that it has given me some needed perspective in a society that makes youth seem so important, while being against growing up.It reminds me that I'm not a kid anymore --- and this isn't a bad thing.
Not being a kid anymore means I read the books I want and not the books I feel I should read.It means not wasting my time at events I don't need to attend when I'd rather be with family and friends.
When I see my hair in the mirror,it's a reminder that my time is not infinite, and I should spend it doing what matters. There's nothing shameful about growing older. And pretending it's not happening is a way of giving up our power.I see my gray hair as a little act of rebellion against the idea that people lose value as they age, instead of gaining it.I see gray hair as my "flag" --- and I'm letting it fly, proudly.

3.It's hard to turn down hamburgers,F(xiàn)rench fries, potato chips and all of the other junk food that seem to call out to us.However, eating too much junk food can harm your body, particularly if you're between the ages of 10 and 19.
"Junk food shapes adolescent brains in ways that do harm to their ability to think, learn and remember. It can also make it harder to control their temper," said Amy Reichelt,a brain and nutrition specialist at Western University,Canada. "It may even up a teen's risk of depression and anxiety."
Reichelt and two other researchers found brains are still developing the ability to assess risks and control actions. The prefrontal cortex(前額皮質(zhì))is the part of the brain that tells us we shouldn't eat chips all the time and helps us resist that urge. However, this region is the last to mature --- it doesn't fully develop until we are in our early 20s.In fact, these regions are even more sensitive when we are young. That's because dopamine(多巴胺),a natural chemical that lifts our mood when we experience something good,is especially active in adolescent brains.
Reichelt and her team conducted their own study using mice, whose brains develop much like our own. They discovered that the "teenage" mice that had a high-fat diet performed worse on memory tests than those eating a normal diet.Researchers said the high-fat diet may make the prefrontal cortex of the mice work less effectively.
So,what's the best way to say no to junk food?Researchers suggest exercise. When we exercise, the brain's reward system becomes less sensitive to food clues.Exercise also triggers(觸發(fā))the body to make a protein that helps brain cells grow and boosts connections between the prefrontal cortex and other brain regions. The prefrontal cortex thus can work better o-help us make wise decisions and control our impulses.
(1)What is the purpose of the first two paragraphs?
A.To figure out what junk food is.
B.To analyze why junk food is hard to resist.
C.To explain the dangers of junk food.
D.To show the interaction between food and brains.
(2)What makes it harder for young people to resist junk food according to the study?
A.Their overactive brains.
B.Their still-developing prefrontal cortex.
C.Their desire to take risks.
D.The low level of dopamine in their brains.
(3)What did the study on mice prove?
A.High-fat diets could negatively affect our intelligence.
B.Our mood could suffer from eating junk food.
C.The brain of a mouse is similar to that of a person's.
D.High-fat diets could harm our ability to process information.
(4)How does exercise help us according to the last paragraph?
A.It activates the brain's reward system.
B.It holds back the desire for junk food.
C.It helps the prefrontal cortex work better with dopamine.
D.It makes the body produce a protein to control our impulses.組卷:0引用:2難度:0.5

Amanda had just come home from school.Exhausted but looking forward to receiving an email from her friend in New Zealand, she turned on her computer and waited impatiently for it to start up.As she waited, she began recalling about the times she spent with Bridget, her best friend, since primary one.Just then,an envelop popped out on her screen, doing repetitive somersaults(翻跟斗).
Amanda sat up and clicked on the "Inbox" bar, absorbed in her friend's usual email and wondering something new and wonderful happened to her.
She was surprised to see the email address. It belongs to Bridget's brother Tom in bold at the top of a row of emails in her inbox. He seldom wrote to her because he was much older and they had nothing in common.A feeling of worry passed through her. "Why was it from Tom",she wondered, "why isn't from Bridget, what's wrong with her?"
"It was probably nothing," she decided to ignore it,saying out loud as she clicked on the email to open it.What she saw was totally unexpected. It was a short email that contained only five lines. He did not even use his usual greeting. He simply said that Bridget had been in a serious car accident and was sent to hospital at once. Now she was in ICU(the intensive care unit). He had been keeping vigil(守夜)by her beside for the past two nights. And he would write again with more information later.
Amanda's jaw dropped and her fingers that had been so busy clicking the mouse buttons earlier slid off the computer table.Amanda dropped in her seat. She could not believe that Bridget was injured.Bridget was a lively and energetic girl who always had something humorous to say.
