一、閱讀理解(共兩節(jié),每題2.5分,共20題,滿分37.5分)第一節(jié):閱讀部分(每題2.5分,共15題,滿分37.5分)

  • 1.Who can be the most dangerous one on the street, the car driver, the cyclist or the pedestrian? Now let's take a look at some people's opinions.
       William Lang
In my opinion,I believe many cyclists behave dangerously. Many drivers are disrespectful of cyclists. But pedestrians are probably the worst offenders.
People of all ages happily walk along the pavement with eyes and hands glued to the mobile phone, quite unaware of what is going on around them. They may even do the same thing while crossing a road at a pedestrian crossing or elsewhere. The rest of us have to give way to them or just stand still to wait for the unavoidable collision.
The real problem is that some pedestrians seem to be,at least for the moment,in worlds of their own that are,to them, much more important than the welfare of others.
       Hemingway
I am afraid nowadays the cyclists seem to think they own the roads.
I was walking across Renmin Road one morning when a cyclist went round me and on being asked what he was doing,he shouted at me.
The government built a cycle lane on the road but it is hardly used.
The police do nothing. What a laugh they are!
The cyclists should all have to be made to use the cycle lanes and wear helmets, fluorescent (發(fā)熒光的) jacket and tights at night and in the morning. They should pay some sort of tax and be fined for not wearing them.
       Gary
Cyclists jump on and off pavements (which are meant for pedestrians),ride at speed along the pavements, and think they have a special right to go through traffic lights when they are on red.
I was almost knocked down recently by a cyclist riding on the pavement when there was a cycle lane right next to him.
Other road users, including horse riders, manage to obey the rules,so why not cyclists?
It's about time they had to be registered and insured,so when they do hit a pedestrian or a vehicle, orcause an accident,at least they can be traced and there might be an opportunity to claim.

(1)The purpose of the question in paragraph one is to
    .
    A.introduce a topic
    B.set an example
    C.show an attitude
    D.draw a conclusion
    (2)William thinks that
    .
A.some pedestrians are a threat to road safety
B.drivers should be polite to cyclists
C.walking while using phones harms one's eyes
D.road accidents can actually be avoided
(3)Both Hemingway and Gary suggest that cyclists should
    .
A.be fined for laughing at policemen
    B.be provided with enough roads
C.be made to pay less tax for cycling
D.be asked to ride on their own lanes

  • 2.It was in my first year of work as a doctor. My mouth was dry,my hands shaking and my voice trembling. The only thing that kept me focused was the thought that things were so much worse for the family I was talking to.
A woman in her early twenties had been brought in after a road traffic accident. She had suffered multiple injuries and had been rushed up to hospital. The doctors had been unable to save her life and she died on the table.Ashen-faced,the consultant (會診醫(yī)生) told the woman's family the news."Tom,I think it would be nice if it came from you."my consultant said.
       I stared blankly."What?"I asked.
"About organ donation (器官捐獻)."he replied.Surely this would be the last thing they'd want to talk about. It felt worse to be considering this kind of conversation while they were being engulfed (陷入) in sadness. But the problem with organ donations that every minute counts. The clock is ticking because the sooner organs can be transplanted (移植),the better the chance they will survive in the recipient's (接受者) body.
I began to feel sick.I opened the door and sat opposite them, made sure that I was only going to make things worse for them."It's what she'd have wanted."the mother said before I'd even finished. The father nodded."She was always so generous."her father added.
As my consultant and I left them,it occurred to me that I'd been wrong in thinking it would be an awkward conversation.Nothing could take away the pain of having lost their daughter.Yet this last, final act had comforted them and helped them feel that the spirit of their daughter lived on in this act of generosity.Strangely,it is one of the most heart-warming conversations I have ever had.

    (1)The first two paragraphs suggest
    .
A.it was hard for the author to face death
B.the author has worked for more than 2 years
C.the author witnessed the traffic accident
D.the bad news was not told at last
(2)Why did the author feel sick?

A.He failed to transplant the organ.
B.He was seriously ill at that time.
C.He didn't know what to do.
D.He was taken to the hospital at once.
(3)Why did the couple agree to donate their daughter's organs?

    A.To help the author.
    B.To follow the daughter's will.
C.To show respect for the doctor.
    D.To finish the conversation.
(4)What made the awkward conversation heart-warming?

    A.The recipient's thanks.
    B.The author's illness.
    C.The consultant's help.
    D.The donor's kindness.

  • 3.    Every so often,a Chinese fashion symbol unknowingly turned the fashion landscape upside down. This time,we unearth the imperial tomb of China's Empress Dowager Cixi (慈禧) (1835-1908)and find her great passion for luxurious nails.
Ancient Chinese nobles started growing long nails during the Warring States Period to show that they weren't manual laborers (體力勞動者),but it wasn't until the Ming Dynasty that long nails and nail guards became an important symbol of material prosperity. And the trend reached its peak in the Qing Dynasty, with Cixi as its poster woman.Cixi nurtured a nail length of roughly 20 cm on her ring and pinky fingers (小拇指) and took care of them in gem-laden (鑲滿寶石),colorful nail guards.During the day,Cixi usually wore nail guards made of gold or silver.According to the memoirs of her maid, before bed,she would switch them into nail pockets made of bright yellow satin (緞子),probably in a motherly manner similar to covering her nail babies into their sleeping bags.
The origins of nail guards began in the Han Dynasty more than 1000 years prior to their mainstream glory. At that time, they weren't particularly decorative. It wasn't until the Qing Dynasty that they became as expensive and delicate as people today know them to have been.Common design patterns included plants, flowers, and calligraphy art.Cixi,on the other hand, had unique rights to dragon and phoenix (鳳凰) carvings on her nail guards.Needless to say,she didn't skimp on exercising these rights.
Long nails may no longer be front and center on the fashion stage today.Yet the period drama series like Empresses in the Palace 《甄嬛傳》 (2012),Ruyi' Royal Love in the Palace (2018),and Story of Yanxi Palace (2018)brought in the popularity of the Morandi color palette (莫蘭迪調(diào)色盤) in China's nail art circle.Inspired by Italian painter Giorgio Morandi, the manicure (美甲) industry today also adopts a more softened color scheme that gives off a feeling of balance and elegance.

(1)What does the writer mainly tell us?

A.The history of long nails and nail guards.
B.The legend of China's Empress Dowager Cixi.
C.Long nails plays an important role in period drama series.
D.Women in ancient times should wear long nails and nail guards.

A.Cixi took off nail guards when she went to bed.
B.Nail guards can show the status on the royal ladder in the Han Dynasty.
C.Ming and Qing Dynasties had lower degree of acceptance of long nails.
D.Cixi had unique rights to dragon and phoenix carvings on her nail guards.
(3)What do underlined words "skimp on" mean in the third paragraph?

    A.subscribe to
    B.a(chǎn)ttempt to
    C.be mean with
    D.a(chǎn)pprove of
(4)What can we infer from the last paragraph?

A.Fashion nail art will disappear on the fashion stage.
B.The period drama series are very popular today because of the long nails.
C.Italian painter Giorgio Morandi makes period drama popular.
D.There is still a market for nail art on the fashion stage.

Two Tickets to the Big Game Two tickets.Only two tickets to the big quarterfinals basketball game.
Three pairs of eyes all focused on the tickets in Dad's outstretched hand.Marcus, the oldest, spoke the question running through everyone's mind,"Only two tickets? But,Dad,which of us gets to go with you?"
       "Yeah,Daddy,who gets to go?"repeated Caleb,the youngest.
"Dad,can't you get any more tickets?"I asked.I might be the in-between sister, but I was just as eager as my basketball-crazy brothers were for a night out with Dad.
"I'm afraid not,"Dad answered."Mr.Williams only has two season tickets. He was thoughtful enough to offer the tickets to Saturday's game to me when he found out he'd be out of town this weekend."
Dad scratched his head."I guess I'll have to figure out a fair way of choosing between the three of you by tomorrow morning.I'll have to decide who deserves it most.Let me sleep on it—okay, guys and girls?"he added quickly before I could correct him.
The next morning,we hurried into the kitchen, only to find a note next to our breakfast, which read,"Mom and I go to pick up some books from the library. All of you get started on the Saturday chores as soon as you finish breakfast."
"Chores! He's got to be kidding."Marcus said as he set down his glass of milk with a thud(砰的一聲)."How can we concentrate on chores when the big game is a mere eleven hours away?"
"Wait for me!"Caleb added, slurping the last of his milk and dashing after his brother.
A few minutes later,as I was washing off the kitchen countertops,I heard the familiar"thump …thump……thump"of the basketball bouncing off of the driveway.Frustrated,I knocked on the window three times. When the boys looked up,I meaningfully held up a kitchen sponge and dishtowel.Marcus casually nodded to me and held up five fingers.Sure, five more minutes!I shook my head from side to side as I began to replace the lid(蓋子) on the garbage container.
