1.Small words may help you beat stress and improve your relationships.Use these tips to teach yourself a helpful and useful vocabulary.
I get to
"Many of us begin our day with the phrase 'I have to'," says Catherine Grace O'Connell,a self-development expert. "Changing this to 'I get to' has the possibility to change the way our day goes." Even if you may not be happy about going to work or cooking dinner, saying that you "get to" do those things changes your attention to the positive aspects of those things.
Thank you
A lot of research has been done on why people-especially women-often don't accept compliments smoothly.Language in Society found that women only accepted compliments 40 percent of the time, and Harvard Business Review found that almost 70 percent of people connected receiving compliments with a little shame or embarrassment.Does this sound familiar? She says, "I love that dress. " You say,"Oh this?I've had it for years. " Or,"You think?I'm not crazy about the color." We often demean(貶低)ourselves while doing this.A better way to respond:Look the person in the eye and simply say, "Thank you."
Not yet
Adding "yet" to the end of your words, especially when talking about abilities and goals,is a small but good way to change your attitude to life. "Add the word 'yet' to limiting comments," suggests Kyndall Bennett, another self-development expert. "When we do this,we allow ourselves to accept the limiting thoughts as truths," Bennett says.
"Examples of this would be like,'I can't speak a second language …yet' and 'I don't know how to run my own business…yet. '" This works for everything from weight loss to relationships;it's a way to add a certain optimism to your words.
(1)What had you better do when receiving compliments?

2.For a number of Indians who for over half a century have replayed a race again and again,Milkha Singh's 400 metres final run at the Rome Olympics should be among the greatest heartbreaks in global sporting history. In fact, they hoped it would throw up a different result.
However, continued praise for the man decades later is due to the effort by India's greatest track athlete on that September day in the Italian capital, though he still missed out on becoming India's first Olympic track medallist.
As he was growing up,he used to run barefoot daily on hot sand to school, which was situated 20 kilometres from his house. He thinks this was good training but knows it is not possible to ask children to do this today. However,he does feel that the early identification of talented athletes is also important for India's athletic teams to shine.
India has in the last few years judged success purely in terms of medals, but looking into the past reveals how a more generous generation saluted Milkha as a pioneer.Milkha is India's finest track athlete of all time.He remains the only Indian male to win an individual Commonwealth Games athletics gold - he won the 400 metres at Cardiff in 1958,the first athlete from independent India to do so.
Since retiring from athletics, the former champion athlete has set up the Milkha Singh Charitable Trust, which helps poorer families survive if an athlete in their family has died.A percentage of the profits from the film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag are going to his trust.
Finally, let's read a quote from Milkha himself:"There is no shortcut to success.A scene in the film shows Milkha Singh running with injured feet-this actually happened.I haven't found an alternative to hard work. You need to be patient, dedicated and true to yourself and your work."
(1)What has won Milkha Singh continued praise?
A.His early hard life experience.
B.His outstanding athletic talent.
C.His status in global sports history.
D.His effort to win an Olympic medal.
(2)What does Milkha Singh think of his early training?
A.Exciting.
B.Unbearable.
C.Beneficial.
D.Useless.
(3)What did Milkha Singh do after his retirement?
A.He turned into a movie actor.
B.He learned to do business.
C.He became an athletic trainer.
D.He engaged in charity work.
(4)What can we learn from Milkha Singh's words?
A.Hard work leads to success.
B.Do something different.
C.Medals measure everything.
D.Stick to your dream.組卷:4引用:2難度:0.6 -

On a rainy night in March 2013.jye.ai husband Reece went out to get a box that he had forgotten in his car.On his way back inside,he noticed a small shadow moving on the driveway. He walked towards it quietly, and found it was a small hedgehog(刺猬),all wet in the grass, eating mud.Reece quickly removed his jacket and picked it up.The hedgehog was very weak and unable to move about quickly. But he did not seem to be frightened;nor did he resist being scooped up (抱起).
Once he was inside,Reece called out to me,saying that he had something that would make my heart melt, and he was right! We named the hedgehog Alf,because, just like the TV show character of the 80s,he came out of nowhere. And,like Alf the alien, this little hedgehog was amazingly intelligent. Not only did he learn to eat his dinner and drink water from his bowls, but he also learnt to wait for us inside his little indoor cubby house and hop into his pet carrier whenever we took him out with us.
Alf knows us very well and recognizes both our voices. He does not roll into a ball or put his spines up.Every day he allows us to pat him.He loves playing with paper and towels and will bite and tug on the bed sheets if given a chance.Like all pets.Alf loves his treats,in particular small pieces of sugar-coated biscuits.
Unfortunately,in April 2014,I was in a car accident and had to spend two months in the hospital. And boy,did I miss Alf!Reece told me that Alf would search around the house for me,checking in places where I'd normally be,such as my desk,my favorite seat in front of the TV and even my side of the bed.

1.續(xù)寫的詞數(shù)應為150左右;
