  • 5.Alice Moore is a teenager entrepreneur(創(chuàng)業(yè)者),who in May 2015 set up her business Ailie Candy.By the time she was 13,her company was worth millions of dollars with the invention of a super-sweet treat that could save kids' teeth, instead of destroying them.
It all began when Moore visited a bank with her dad.On the outing, she was offered a candy bar. However, her dad reminded her that sugary treats were bad for her teeth. But Moore was sick of missing out on candies. So she desired to get round the warning, "Why can't I make a healthy candy that's good for my teeth so that my parents can't say no to it?" With that in mind,Moore asked her dad if she could start her own candy company. He recommended that she do some research and talk to dentists about what a healthier candy would contain.
With her dad's permission, she spent the next two years researching online and conducting trials to get a recipe that was both tasty and tooth-friendly.She also approached dentists to learn more about teeth cleaning.Consequently, she succeeded in making a kind of candy only using natural sweeteners, which can reduce oral bacteria.
Moore then used her savings to get her business of the ground.Afterwards, she and her father secured their first business meeting with a supermarket owner, who finally agreed to sell Moore's product-Cancandy.
As CanCandy's success grows,so does Moore's credibility as a young entrepreneur.Moore is enthusiastic about the candy she created, and she's also positive about what the future might bring. She hopes that every kid can have a clean mouth and a broad smile.
Meanwhile, with her parents' help,Moore is generally able to live a normal teenage life.Although she founded her company early on in life, she wasn't driven primarily by profit.Moore wants to use her unique talent to help others find their smiles. She donates 10% of AilicCandy's profits to Big Smiles. With her talent and determination,it appears that the sky could be the limit for Alice Moore.

  • 6.When visitors to the Palace Museum feel a need to sit down for a cup of tea or find a bathroom without a long line, they soon will be able to turn to their smart phones for the information they need.
This modern day solution comes thanks to an agreement signed on Friday by the museum and Huawei Co.,the telecommunication giant,to build a "smart network" using 5 G technology.Under the agreement,5 G Wi-Fi signals will cover the Palace Museum,China's royal palace from 1420 to 1911,and the branch museum of the institution under construction in northwestern Beijing.
"It's essential to always stay close to the latest technology to better serve the public," said Shan Jixiang, former director of the Palace Museum.Shan said there is still much room for improvement in the handling of a huge number of cultural relics(文物),such as when the priceless painting Along the River During the Qingming Festival is exhibited again in the future. When it was last exhibited in 2015,visitors stood in long lines until 3 am to get a glimpse. The museum ended up preparing instant noodles to serve the hungry visitors. "I don't want that scenario to reoccur," Shan said. "Our operation can be done in a more scientific way.
The new system will also make use of the closed--circuits television cameras that are set up all over the Palace Museum to safeguard the museum's precious relics.More than 1.86 million of them are housed at the museum, which recorded nearly 20 million visits from the public last year, topping all museums worldwide. "How can we make sure no single visitor who might have evil ideas threatens these treasures?" Shan said. "After adopting the internet of things,we can instantly detect any motion involving the artifacts to prevent such threats."
The 5 G network also will be used to improve remote consultation through webcams, which will facilitate conversations with overseas scholars to jointly find the best answers for restoration and preservation issues.

(1)What do we know about the Palace Museum?

A.Its visitors won't have to queue up for the bathroom.
B.It has served as China's royal palace for over 500 years.
C.It will cooperate with Huawei to promote its management.

  • 7.Why do we laugh and get amusement from so many different things, from puns (雙關語) to pratfalls? Why are some things funny to some people and not to others? How is that while a successful joke can cause pleasure,a sick one can cause serious harm?
Over the centuries, various scholars have attempted to produce a universally agreed-upon theory of humor.Plato and Aristotle introduced the superiority(優(yōu)越感) theory, the idea that people laugh at the misfortune of others.Their theory seems to explain teasing, but it doesn't work well for knock-knock jokes.Sigmund Freud argued for his relief theory, the concept that humor is a way for people to release psychological tension and reveal their inner fears and desires. His theory works well for dirty jokes, less well for most puns.
The majority of humor experts today agree with the incongruity theory, the idea that humor arises when there's a gap between what people expect to happen and what actually happens.Incongruity has a lot going for it - jokes with unexpected funny lines, for example, fit well. But scientists have found that in comedy, unexpectedness is overvalued.
With the goal of developing a new, more satisfactory explanation,I produced "the gentle violation(違背)theory",the idea that humor arises when something seems wrong or threatening, but is actually OK or safe.A dirty joke, for example, trades on moral or social violations, but it's only going to get a laugh if the person listening is open enough to consider the subject OK to talk about.Similarly, puns can be seen as linguistic violations that still make grammatical sense.
And while most humor theories have struggled to account for tickling (撓癢癢),or just avoided the phenomenon altogether,my theory accounts for even this kind of laughter.Tickling involves violating someone's physical space in a gentle way.People can't tickle themselves - because it isn't a violation.

(1)What is the author's attitude towards Plato and Aristotle's theory?

    A.Critical
    B.Approving
    C.Uncaring
    D.Unclear
(2)According to Sigmund Freud's theory,we can infer that

A.people will laugh when they see others suffer
B.telling dirty jokes is a relief of one's nervous feelings
C.unexpectedness can explain how humor works
    D.tickling doesn't involve psychological tension
(3)According to the author, why are some things funny to some people but not to others?

A.Because the sense of humor varies greatly from person to person.
B.Because people have different expectations for the same thing.
C.Because some people lack the sense of safety deep in their heart.
D.Because people's understanding of violation is different.
(4)What is the author's main purpose of writing this passage?

A.To draw people's attention to the research of humor.
B.To criticize people's misconceptions about humor.
C.To explain what exactly causes people to laugh.
D.To prove the sense of humor can be developed.

  • 8.Mondays are kind of annoying.(1)
A recent survey says that most people get the pre-work "Sunday blues".Starting your Monday feeling sad, anxious and unorganized is hardly the way to kick off a healthy week.
The solution?Set aside a little time on Sunday to purposefully prepare yourself for the five days ahead, suggests women's health expert Marsha Hudnall.(2)

    Do some meal preparations.
Figuring out what to have for dinner on weeknights can be surprisingly stressful.Stretching out a menu plan on Sunday and swinging by the grocery store for ingredients will help you eat well.Go a step further by chopping and cooking vegetables and a protein (like a roast chicken or scrambled eggs).(3)
Or finally attempt a different diet you've been meaning to try.For easy dinner planning, just order, and you'll have a week's worth of raw materials for delicious and healthy meals.
    Start a Sunday stress-relief habit.
"To be healthy,we have to take care of body and mind," says Hudnall.Stress has a major impact on health and our ability to concentrate.(4)
Four ideas to try:a guided meditation with the help of an app;forest bathing-a practice known as shinrin-yoku in Japan, which basically means taking a long walk or hike in a wooded area;gentle exercise like yoga;or time cuddling and playing with your pet.
    (5)

Why not prepare your favorite clothes for Monday?Studies show that what you wear can have a significant effect on your mood.So make Monday the day you wear your favorite clothes or show the latest addition to your wardrobe (衣櫥).It's also a good idea to get some nice coffee or music ready, which will give you something to look forward to on your Monday commute.

A.Give yourself something to look forward on Monday.
B.Even Sunday afternoons turn sour as we think of the workweek ahead.
C.Then all you have to do is heat and plate when you come home from work.
D.Therefore, starting a Sunday stress-relieving habit can begin a week feeling strong and focused.
E.Try creating a relaxing and winding down Sunday night so that you can recharge and get ready for Monday.
F.Taking on just a few of these simple lips every Sunday will help you launch a productive, less stressful week.
G.Wailing until the last moment to do weekend chores like paying bills or doing laundry can leave you anxious and stressed on Sunday.
