Can you imagine a pair of shoes that could tie themselves? All you would have to do is to put them on and push a button.Well, this idea is becoming a real reality. The shoe company Nike created the sell-tying shoe!
This idea first came from the movie Back to the FutureⅡ,and Nike has been working for years to create a shoe that can do this in real life. They have finally done it with Nike Hyper Adapt 1.0.
So how do they work?According to Nike, the shoe is"powered by an underfoot-lacing mechanism(腳下系帶裝置)".This is kind of like a small motor(發(fā)動(dòng)機(jī))that has the power to lace the shoes.
All the wearer has to do is to put them on,and at first, the shoes are very loose(松的).But then you can push the"+"button(按鈕),and the shoes will tighten to be the perfect fit for the wearer. To take them off,all you have to do is to push the"-"button,and the shoes will be easily off.
They haven't been released(投放)to the public yet,and the cost of the shoes is still unknown. But you might be able to get a pair of your own closer to the holiday season this year.

  • 1.The new round of Palestinian-Israeli conflict (巴以沖突) has lasted for some time,as a result, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have to leave their homes and thousands of them have died. What is worrying is that this conflict, which can be traced back (追溯)more than 70 years ago,is becoming worse and worse.
Now,the conflict is happening in the Gaza Strip.Over 2 million Palestinians live there. In order to eat away at Palestinian lend and prevent Palestinians,Israel has built a long wall, which is 8 meters high.Anyone who breaks into the area will be shot to death.
In 1947,a group of Jews from Europe arrived at a port in Palestine. These Jews held up a sign, which read, "The Germans have destroyed our homeland, please do not destroy our hope."
Arabs (阿拉伯人)took pity on the Jews' experiences during World War 2,they welcomed this group of newcomers who had come from faraway places. But they didn't expect that these Jews came here to build a Jewish country.
After realizing what the Jewish people wanted,Arab leaders said, "We do feel sorry for the hardships that Jews experienced during the war,but it was not we Arabs who caused their suffering. Why should they come and seize (占領(lǐng)) our land?"
However, with the strong support of the United States and the Soviet Union,Jews built a state of Israel though Arabs were against it.Later, conflicts often broke out between the two sides.
It's worth mentioning that today, the area of Israel is far larger than Palestinian's.The Jewish people have seized most of Palestinian land.
The Palestinians received unfair treatment. They were forced to leave their own homes. Most of them can only live in refugee(難民) camps in the Gaza Strip. What's even worse, these Palestinians live a hard and hopeless life and are unable to make their voices heard by the outside world.

  • 2.Do you know where J.K.Rowling wrote the Harry Potter books? She wrote the first book in a coffee shop. Was it because she felt more creative when working there? The answer might be yes.
Scientists found that moderate(適度的)noise can make people more creative,The New York Times reported.
Scientists did tests on students. They divided them into four groups. They then asked the students to do certain tasks involving creative thinking. But each group did the task with different volumes(音量)of background noise. They found that students did best when working under moderate noise-70 decibels(分貝).This is about the same volume of background noise in a cafe.Students did worse in low noise (50 dB).This is the volume of a quiet room. They did the poorest when in a high-noise (85 dB) environment. This is the noise level in a factory.
Moderate noise can distract(分心)people just enough so that they think more creatively. "It helps you think outside the box," Raci Mehta,a lead researcher in the study, said to the Business Standard. On the one hand, working in a very quiet place can strengthen our focus. But it also stops us from thinking abstractly(抽象).
"This is why if you are too focused on a problem and you can't solve it," said Mehta, "you leave it for some time and then come back to it and you'll get the solution."
However, the scientists said that when you need to do detailed things, like proofreading(校對(duì))a paper,a quiet place is better than a noisy one.

(1)The first paragraph tells us that

    A.J.K.Rowling likes drinking coffee

    (2)

    A.85 dB
    B.70 dB
    C.50 dB

A.help people think outside the box
    B.make people think abstractly
C.help people find the solution easily
D.help people focus on their work

A.how to work under a moderate noise level
B.why J.K.Rowling likes to write stories in a coffee shop
C.why moderate noise is good for creative thinking
